Your base is the 4★ Lygaria Beach Hotel on the quiet bay of Lygaria, next to Agia Pelagia and just twenty minutes from Heraklion. The beach is right by the hotel, with indoor and outdoor pools and a snack bar by the water; breakfast is included and the booking is refundable.
Instead of a transfer — a car for the whole trip: an Opel Corsa or similar, picked up at Heraklion airport on arrival and returned before your flight home. Premium package: full insurance and a second driver already included. Crete is an island that truly opens up by car.
One day is Santorini: the ferry from Heraklion port, whitewashed Oia above the caldera, blue domes and the views people cross half the world for. A guided day trip; a version with resort-area transfer is available.
Another day, the west of the island: the Balos lagoon with its turquoise water and pinkish sand, and the pirate island of Gramvousa. Transfer and boat ticket included.
The rest of the days are Crete by car: mountain villages, waterside tavernas, the beaches of the south and views the buses never reach. I'll suggest routes to match your mood.
